Connect: A fresh perspective can move things forward

Have you ever faced a challenge that keeps returning, despite everyone’s best efforts?

Decisions stall. Collaboration becomes fragmented. Conversations turn to what “the other department” or “management” should do differently.

You know something needs to change. But where do you start?

When people work within their own teams and responsibilities, they see different parts of the same situation. What seems obvious to one person may look very different to another. Those differences can offer clues to why progress has stalled.

What might you discover by exploring a perspective you haven’t yet heard? Someone closer to the day-to-day work, a colleague from another department or a person who questions the usual approach?

You could start with one conversation. Think of a recurring issue and invite someone affected by it to share their view. Ask: “What does this look like from where you sit?” or “What might we be overlooking?”

There’s no need to solve it immediately. First, explore what their perspective adds to yours. Does it challenge an assumption? Reveal a dependency? Help explain why a decision keeps coming back?

That shared understanding may be the starting point for a better decision — and a way forward together.

Whose perspective could help you see a familiar challenge differently?
